REYS Covid-19 Statement of Recovery
On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April. The updated guidance for education settings, released on Friday 1st April, advises schools to continue to promote robust health and safety measures. These include:
- good ventilation,
- frequent hand washing,
- regular hygiene reminders throughout the school day (particularly the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach)
- thorough whole school cleaning procedures at the end of each day.
Updated guidance advises:
- ADULTS with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and they no longer have a high temperature.
- ADULTS with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. Staff can return to work after five days if they are well enough. Lateral flow tests are no longer required before adults return to work.
- CHILDREN who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. Children can come back to nursery when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend without being supported by Calpol/Nurofen etc.
- CHILDREN with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days. Children can return to nursery after three days if they are well enough. Lateral flow tests are no longer required before return to nursery.
Visitors on site: We will no longer be restricting visitors/parents into the nursery and will be looking carefully over the coming weeks how we gradually welcome parents back on site.
Contingency Plan for Reintegration of Restrictions: In the event of a future outbreak, we may be advised by Public Health England (PHE) to return to testing and would then follow all guidance as advised. For example, if nursery experienced:
- A higher than previously experienced and/or rapidly increasing number of staff or pupil absences due to COVID-19 infection
- A cluster of cases where there are concerns about the health needs of vulnerable pupils or staff.
When one of the thresholds above is met, we will review the hygiene and ventilation measures already in place. If considering additional measures, we would also seek public health advice from the Local Authority and/ or the Local Health Protection team.
Safeguarding: There will be no change to local multi-agency safeguarding arrangements. A DSL or deputy DSL will be available at nursery at all times.
